On Tuesday March 14, The Centennial Bulldogs girls soccer team took on the Sand Creek Scorpions at Dutch Clark. The game was pretty one sided throughout the first 10 minutes until Fernanda Rios chip shotted the ball into the far corner, over the goalie, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0. About five minutes later, Jaden Davis for Sand Creek blasted a shot from the 18 yard box, tying the game at 1 a piece. It was almost right after Sand Creek scored when centennial’s Cara Siegel scores to put the Bulldogs back in the lead. With the first half coming to a close, Sand Creek was battling back to tie the game. Just like clockwork, Amanda Garrett of the Scorpions tied the game just before halftime. The first half came to a close with the score 2-2, and the Bulldogs back on the ropes.
As the second half of this very close and promising game got started, Centennial came out hard trying to score forcing Ashley Witherell of Sand Creek to take a bad penalty, getting a straight red card. The Scorpions were down a player for the remainder of the game, giving the Bulldogs a better chance of winning. The Bulldogs were hoping to come away with a possible victory or even a tie, but Sand Creek was starting to gain momentum. Once again, Jaden Davis scored, putting the Scorpions in the lead. Centennial’s girl fought hard to get back into the game with several chances to score, but fell short. The final horn sounded with the final score, 3-2. Head Coach Jeff Sterling had a few words to say about the outcome of the game, “It’s probably one of the worst losses we’ve had in many years and the effort level and the intensity level were not acceptable.” The Bulldogs hope to bounce back with a victory when they travel to Elizabeth High School.
