This weekend our bulldog track team attended the annual County High school ‘Hornet Invite’, led by our relay teams and individual performances from Michael Duran, Derek Valdez, and Steven Rastrelli, the bulldog team placed 3rd in the meet.

To start the day the meet was delayed 3 hours due to technical problems, during the delay our field events stole the show. Derek Valdez took first place in the high jump, jumping an incredible 6’5, then he took second place in the long jump, jumping 20’3. The bulldogs also had a great effort from John Scoleri, who took second place in the triple jump with a score of 42’ 3.25. Steven Rastrelli scored the bulldogs some team points when he took 1st place in the pole vault, vaulting 11’6.

The running events began around noon, 3 hours later than they should have started, but that didn’t phase the bulldogs. Right off the bat our boys 4×800 team absolutely smoked the competition and took 1st with a time of 8:35:54. Our girls 4×800 team followed the hype and placed 3rd. Going into the meet, Michael Duran was hoping to break a school record for the two mile race.  Duran was unable to break the record but he still placed 1st in the meet. The other relay teams experienced some trouble with hand offs and wipe outs but competed with tons of heart.
To cap off the day our boys 4×400 team ran a amazing race, qualifying for state with a time of 3:32:19 and placing 1st in the meet. Overall our boys and girls did great and represented the school with pride and walked out of the hornet invite with the bronze medal as a team.
