This August at the State Fair, Girls cabinet helped St. Mary Corwin raise over $60,000 for the Dorcy Cancer Center.

This is Girls Cabinet’s 5th year helping St. Mary Corwin with their fundraisers. They were helping set up a dinner and auction from 5:00pm until the rodeo started. In that time they auctioned off such things as a flight for life helicopter ride, a stagecoach ride around the stadium, a belt buckle, a knife, a quilt, and tickets to the rodeo finals in Las Vegas.

This is one of their best [fundraisers] they’ve had ever”

— Mrs. Holly Smith

In the words of Mrs. Holly Smith herself, “This is one of their best [fundraisers] they’ve had ever.” And it’s true, the auction alone raised over $38,000. Most of the money raised is going directly to the cancer patients, if it hasn’t already gotten there. “It’s very expensive to help cancer patients with nutrition and transportation,” Mrs. Smith said.

Many of the cancer patients being treated don’t have family living nearby and are in no condition to be driving themselves to their radiation treatment, so the money should help them considerably. Between 20 and 25 centennial bulldogs participated, including Kylie Parker, Ally Cloves, and Kate Castelli. If you see them in the halls, or any other Girls Cabinet members, be sure to tell them that they’ve done an amazing service to those in need.
