Cyclones Beat Bulldogs on Senior Night

On February 7, 2017 the Centennial High School girls basketball team went up against Pueblo West High School in an exciting rivalry game, which was also senior night for the bulldog girls. This years seniors were: Kayanna Casias, Cara Siegel, Shaynee Cruz, Zoe Smith, Veda Bigley, Lexys Baca, and Maygen Lucero. To start off the game, Jordyn Keck for Pueblo West and Jayden Garcia-Prien traded scoring by making the game 4-4 early. The beginning of the game was very defensive and at the end of the first quarter, the score was, 11-11. The second quarter got off to a rocky start for the bulldogs when Pueblo West put up ten unanswered points before Kayanna Casias got Centennial’s first points of the quarter. Later into the quarter, Jayden Garcia-Prien g
ot two straight 3 pointers, but the bulldogs were still trailing in the game. When the buzzer sounded to signal halftime, the score was, Pueblo west 30, Centennial with 19.
The second half was set to kick off, and the bulldogs came out hoping to get the lead and hopefully win this game. Centennial’s Kayanna Casias came into the second half draining a three pointer, getting the crowd into the game. Pueblo West was started to surge when Olivia Lough and Jordyn Keck both got three pointers, cushioning their lead. At the end of the third quarter the score was tallied up to 47-24 with Pueblo West still leading. The bulldogs went into the final quarter hoping to get some momentum and to win the game when Cara Siegel and Kayanna Casias got back to back points. All of a sudden, Shanae Lontine for Pueblo West was making shot after shot, making Centennial’s chances of winning even slimmer. The bulldogs were fighting every bit of the way to try and win this rivalry game, but fell short with a final score of 74- 46. Centennial’s next game will be against Central High School, hoping to come away with a win in another rivalry game.
