Bulldogs Show Heart in OT Thriller

At the beginning of the season, the Bulldog head coach, Ryen Romero, said we’d see 8-10 guys getting a sufficient amount of playing time every game. Last night that sentiment stood true.  The bench was like a ferris wheel, with subs coming in and out of the game. It proved well for the Dogs as they had 3 players score in double digits. Antonio Rodriguez led the way with 31 points, Greg Bennet chipped in 14 of his own, and Brandon Solano was able to get 10 of his own. Solano was able to do it on the boards as well pulling down 12 rebounds to cap off his double double.

The Bulldogs started the game hot. They owned every bit of the first half. They went on a 10-3 run to begin the game. Although Canon City never let this game get out of reach the Bulldogs never let them tie the game nor take the lead. The Bulldogs had leads as big as 25-16, and 33-21 before the halfway mark. At the end of the first half the Bulldogs ended up holding a slim 36-34 lead.

Going into the third quarter the high octane up tempo Bulldog offense kept at it. But just like they had all the game the Canon City Tigers never let this one get out of reach. After 3 the Bulldogs held on to 52-47 lead. The Tigers came out swinging in the 4th quarter of this one jumping out to a 7-0 run to gain their first lead of the game with 6:13 remaining in the game. With under 3 minutes remaining the Tigers lead was as big as 10 points. After that, the Bulldogs came roaring back. Antonio Rodriguez hit 3 clutch three’s late in the game to make this one a 67-66 ball game. Canon City went to the free throw line 2 times with this slim lead and went 1 for 4. Setting up Rodriguez to go down court and draw a foul and hit both free throws to tie this one up 68-68. The clock sounded as we get ready for OT. From the start the Bulldogs controlled the OT, they let that momentum carry them onto a huge 81-77 win.
