Bulldogs Break SCL Losing Skid With big win Over Pueblo South
January 23, 2019
Friday Night the Centennial boys basketball team walked into the Southwest Motors Events Center with a chip on their shoulder. Just one day after blowing out DHPH at their gym, the Bulldogs looked to win the week with a big win over Pueblo South. The game started off very back and forth as at the end of 1Q the game was all knotted up at 14. Centennial began to gain the upper hand in the second quarter with senior Jeremiah Lange scoring 8 points in four possessions for the Bulldogs, this ultimately gave the Bulldogs the upper hand in the quarter to give them a 31-26 halftime lead over the Colts.
At this time the Bulldog faithful were on the edge of their seat. The ‘Dogs came out in the second half with one thing in mind, REBOUNDS. For Centennial it seemed like every missed shot they had was another chance to score as they grabbed 22 offensive rebounds in this game. Every player who got playing time in this one grabbed at least 2 rebounds. This led them to run away with this game in the second half and hold on for a big 61-45 victory over the Colts. It’s no secret that the key to this game was rebounding for the Dogs, as all together they pulled down 53 rebounds.
Centennial had two players come away with a double-double in this game. Senior Antonio Rodriguez led the way by scoring 20 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and dishing out 3 assists. Junior Brandon Solano held his own as well scoring 13 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive side. This game ended an 11 game SCL losing streak for the Bulldogs. Next up for Centennial is a date with the Pueblo East Eagles at 5:30 on January 22.
